High wind and rain all night lots of conkers two walkabouts and some shopping in Thirsk before a drive over to Scarborough washing and fitted new brake shoes tested with a short cycle down to the Mc Cain chip factory.
After tea a cycle to Osgodby spotted an unusual and sad sign
Another wet wet wet day and I had to take the bike in for a new cable so walked in in had a coffee and had a look round the Art exhibition ( nothing special). Bike fixed in 40 mins.
Must be blue plaque day Thirsk has lots of these.
The trouble with these grass only campsites is its not the place to be on bad rain days you get a mucky van UGH!
Due to Costa in Stockton now closed I cycled on to the industrial estate behind the campsite then along the river side into Stockton for a look around. Then a short drive (30 mins.) to Thirsk campsite a short cycle into town to book my bike into have a gear cable changed need to bring in tomorrow morning.
Had another walk about after tea will have a look at the courthouse tomorrow as an art exhibition on.
Bus into Whitley Bay before leaving for Durham every day I pass this stone outside the campsite so some info on it.
The Blue whinstone at Old Hartley, lies outside the Delaval Arms. The stone once marked the centre of the village of Hartley. It was possibly a Saxon boundary stone. At the time of the black death in the 14th century people believed that by touching the stone they would become immune from the plague. The stone became a symbol of good fortune and by tradition you had to kiss the Blue Stone to become a citizen of Hartley! William Carr, “The Hercules Of The North”, was born in Old Hartley on 3rd April 1756. He regularly demonstrated his strength by lifting the stone. When much of the old village was demolished in the 1940s, the stone was buried. After a new road was built in 1973, Whitley Bay Borough Council resited the stone as near as possible to it’s original position
This is a popular seaside town with a playhouse that puts on some great shows.
Just before leaving bumped into another friend lovely to see him again.
Short drive down and some shopping then a cycle into Durham to see if any changes NO.
Opps and another friend at the campsite gosh I am so well known.
A very WET WET WET day so caught the bus into town twice and had a look round the shops. Came across one of the best Antique shops I have seen in years brilliant. Bay Traders Flea Market Whitley Bay.
Cycle down to Cake shop before leaving for Old Hartley the reason there is no one playing golf is pretty obvious in the image below.
Good drive down a cycle on arrival then RAIN RAIN RAIN but lots of opportunities for rainbow pictures
